Last week's Target Practice results!

Question: Did Yeshua break the Sabbath?

Targets:

A. Yes - 1 Hit
B. No - 28 Hits

Bull's-eye: B. No

1 John 3:4 clearly defines sin as breaking/violating the laws of the Almighty. Since the keeping the Sabbath is one of YHWH's laws, for Yeshua to break it, as some may suggest, would clearly mean Yeshua (Jesus) would have committed a sin and therefore could not be the Messiah of whom Moses spoke! However, since Yeshua was tempted at all points yet without sin (Hebrews 5:15) he did not violate the Sabbath or any other commandment, therefore he is our Messiah.

Last week's Target Practice results!

Question:
Mathew 5:19, Yeshua says..."Whosoever therefore shall break one of the least commandments and shall teach men so, he shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven..." Does this mean everyone will be least in the kingdom since "all have sinned?"

A. Yes - 3
B. No - 36

Bull's - eye: B. NO

Indeed all have in fact sinned, however Yeshua goes on to say in Matthew 5:19 there will be others who will be called "Great." These "Great" ones will be drastically different from those who will be called the "Least" in that they will be turning others to the Torah not away from it like those who are "Least."

Last week's "Target Practice" results!

Question: In reference to food, does Yeshua say nothing from without can defile the man, since it goes into his stomach and is eliminated?

Targets and results:

A. YES - 22
B. NO - 7

Bull's-eye: A. YES

Yeshua did in fact say that. However, since he himself was without sin and sin is transgression of the law he was clearly not suggesting the unclean animals mentioned in Leviticus are now somehow clean! On the contrary, the above quote taken from Mark 7 is clearly a rebuke to the Pharisees who suggest eating with unwashed hand defiles the individual or that which is consumed.

Question: Did Shaul say every creature of Elohim is good and nothing is to be refused if we receive it be received with thanksgiving?

Targets and results:

A. Yes - 11 hits
B. No - 14 hits

Bull's-eye: A. yes

1 Timothy 4:4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:

To clarify that he is clearly not saying we may eat anything we must read verse 3.

Timothy 4:3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

Shaul (Paul) clearly says those who depart from the faith will command others to abstain from food Elohim created to be received. By this statement along with the rest of the eternal words of scripture that everything Elohim was not made for food. However, in the narrative found in 1 Timothy 4 Shaul reminds the reader that everything created by Elohim for food is good for consumption regardless of what those who depart from the faith say.

Last week's "Target Practice" results!

Since we of the covenant are clearly to keep the Sabbath Day, are we also to keep the judgment command to stone those who violate it?

A. Yes - 5

B. No - 35

Bull's eye - B. No

You may wonder how we keep the Torah by not keeping the judgment of stoning. How could “B” be a Bull’s-eye? After all, did not Yeshua himself say, “till heaven and earth pass not one jot or tittle shall pass from the Torah till all be fulfilled?”

Am I suggesting that we disregard the very instructions of YHWH? No! I am, however, suggesting that while we are in exile, we cannot carry out such judgments. This judgment belongs to the government of YHWH. As long as we live in a land or nation ruled by another king or government – then we are in exile – and cannot carry out such judgments. This is true even in the land of Israel which is currently under a secure government. To carry out a judgment of death upon an individual without being able to fulfill all of the commandments governing justice, involving the judges, priests, urim and thummin and cities of refuge would be a greater violation of Torah.

However, if in the land of Israel under the reign of Messiah, with the Torah being the law of the land, then yes, stoning is the required punishment and therefore we would keep the righteous judgment as prescribed by The Holy One. We must not forget judgments such as this and others alike were given not only to protect the faithful, but to purge the evil by deterring others from considering such an adulterous path of unfaithfulness. We must remember that the Torah is the image of YHWH – to violate it is to put forth a false image that would lead people away from the source of life and salvation.

Last week's "Target Practice" results!

Question: Is it a violation of the Sabbath day to gather and worship on the first day of the week?

Targets and results:

A. Yes - 6

B. No - 32

C. Only if you disregard the Seventh Day Sabbath - 14

D. Only if you haven't been led by the spirit to do so. - 3

Bull's-eye: B. No

The Sabbath command tells us what constitutes a violation of the Sabbath. Worshiping YHWH on the first day of the week or any other day does not violate the Sabbath. Yes we have six days to prepare for the Sabbath but we are not told by the Almighty only to worship him on the Sabbath and no other day.

  • Exodus 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Last week's "Target Practice" results!

Question: Why is the Sabbath Day important?

A. It reminds us who created us. - 39 hits

B. It reminds us of the resurection. - 3 hits

C. It reminds us who redeems us. - 27 hits

D. It is a sign who sanctifies us. - 35 hits

Bull's-eyes- A, C, and D.

A. - Exodus 20: 8-11 clearly tell us to remember the Sabbath Day because YHWH created all things in six days and rested the seventh. Therefore, It is a weekly reminder of which all things came into being and YHWH being the orchestrator of all!

C. - Deuteronomy 5:15 links the importance of the Sabbath to reminding us it is he that redeems us. It states, "YHWH thy Elohim brought thee out through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore Elohim commanded thee to keep the Sabbath Day!"

D. - Exodus 31:13,14 and Ezekiel 20:12 go on to tell us to keep the Sabbath because IT IS A SIGN for us to know that he is YWHH who sanctifies us and sets us apart.

In regard to target "C," the one thing that is likened to that of the resurrection is not that of the Sabbath rather the "new life" found in Messiah by the believer who walks by faith in newness of life no longer enslaved by the flesh and its fear of eternal death. (Romans 6:1-18)

Last week's "Target Practice" results!

Question: Which day is the Sabbath Day?

Targets and results:

A. first day of the week, Sunday.
B. Any day you choose, just pick a day.
C. There is no Sabbath day, I esteem everyday alike.
D. The seventh day of the biblical month. - 3 hits
E. The seventh day, Saturday. - 44 hits

Bull's-eye: E. The seventh day Saturday.

Exodus 20:8 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it.

It is also important to note that days begin and end in the evening. This can be confirmed in Genesis 1:5, 8, 13, 19, 23, 31.

Some problems with the other targets:

The scriptures clearly tell us not to add to nor take away from the scriptures. That said, we cannot arbitrarily change what day the Sabbath is.

Regarding the lunar Sabbath, since the moon was clearly created on the fourth day and the scriptures clearly tell us Elohim rested on the seventh day, if the moon determines when the sabbath is then Elohim rested on the third day (after the new moon) not the seventh.

Question: Has the "new covenant" been fulfilled?

Targets and results:

A. Yes - 11
B. No - 44

Bull's-eye: No

Jeremiah 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah. 32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD. 33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. 34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

The "new covenant" has not been fulfilled at a NATIONAL LEVEL yet.

  • Romans 5:10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.(KJV)

Everyone enters the covenant by grace. Grace is the gift by which reconciliation is achieved and appropriated by the faith of the recipient.

A citizen of the kingdom will obey from the heart:

  • Jeremiah 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. (KJV)

Situational Training Exercise (Click to advise!)

Newly enlisted Private Barb Dwyer was out shopping on a Friday afternoon and got a phone call from an old friend, Helen Back. Miss Back asked Private Dwyer if she would meet her for supper to discuss their up coming class reunion activities and catch a movie afterwards. She told her she couldn't do the movie, simply because it would be the Sabbath by then. Then the gloves came off, because Helen Back was not going to be rejected. She pulled the trigger and replied, "I go to church and read the Bible, and Jesus broke the Sabbath by healing on the sabbath!" Caught by surprise and not sure how to respond, Private Dwyer told her she would call her back.

Objective: Inform Private Barb Dwyer of a solid defense against the accusations of "Jesus" breaking the Sabbath and encourage her on the commitment to keeping the Sabbath!
